The future of storytelling is served: Storyblok V2 is here to empower your business and your clients to create and scale even better content experiences across all channels. With Storyblok’s new CMS experience, we are doubling down on our promise to establish Storyblok as the #1 CMS for the 21st century, and we are excited to do so together.
Storyblok V2 is an all-new, faster, more powerful content management system packed with new features and refinements. It offers an advanced UI, an improved visual editor, better direct asset management, intuitive discussion features, and a brand new in-engine image editor.
Storyblok V2 was rolled out on August 2nd this year and we strongly encourage you to adopt this faster, more intuitive, and easier-to-use version of our CMS. To make things even better, we offer you a complete guide on how to use V2. As an added bonus, especially for those who are new to Storyblok, we’ll reveal to you the secret of how to get started with our CMS.
Understanding Storyblok V2
- Getting started with V2
This document will show you how to create a space, explain the prepared data structure, and show you how to hook up the Visual Editor with an example project from CodeSandbox and Stackblitz. - Understanding the V2 UI
Here, you will have a chance to review the functionalities of the sidebar and main dashboard, where you’ll see your content, block library, assets, data sources, apps, settings, the Visual Editor, and more. V2 has three variations of the dashboard and here, you can get a better understanding of the editor, admin, and owner dashboards. - Configuring your space in V2
Setting up your space in a way that fits your needs and matches your imagination is easy with V2. Here, you will learn how to configure your space in the settings area. This guide includes instructions on how to set up default settings: your subscription, the Visual Editor, content localization, webhooks, access tokens, workflows, asset library, users, roles, etc. - Accessing your data
Storyblok offers a comprehensive API (application programming interface) that follows common patterns you see across the web. We offer a Content Delivery API, a Management API, and a GraphQL API. In this guide, you will learn about our Content Delivery API, which helps users deliver content to their audience. It is designed around the REST architecture principles and aims to deliver content onto multiple platforms. It provides better security and allows users to manage the entire content platform from a single location. - Understanding the V2 Visual Editor The Visual Editor, our and our users' favorite Storyblok feature, is looking better than ever! It enables users to create and edit their content with an in-context preview, including the possibility to click on components in their website. The left side of the Vidua Editor is the real-time live preview of your page, which is available to be viewed as a desktop, mobile, and tablet size page. The right side of the Visual Editor is the content management area which consists of your blocks and fields. This guide will explain the preview and content areas of the Visual Editor in detail as well as how to configure those areas. In addition, you will find a toolkit that enables you to set up a bridge between the Visual Editor Content and your project embedded in the Preview.
- Content Authoring
In general, to make sure that every team member gets involved in the process of creating the story, content production requires workflows. With Storyblok, you can define your own custom workflows and rules to control the flow of this process. In addition, we offer you various levels of content authoring depending on your subscription. This guide will show you the differences between basic and custom workflows as well as how to set them up together with approvals, discussions, scheduling content, managing your pipeline, etc. - Fields and components schema
Let’s clarify a few things first. One field type is the smallest part in Storyblok terminology. It can be a single input field or even a custom field type (plugin). A component is a standalone entity. While components (or bloks) can be nested in each other, semantically, they remain equal. Each component is a small piece of your data structure that can be filled with content or nested by your content editor. One component can consist of as many field types as required. Each component, be it a Content-Type or Blok, has a defined set of fields called a schema. Your schema consists of one or multiple field(s) with different field types. A schema can have multiple Tabs, which allows you to group your fields. Here you can learn more about all options when configuring your content types and components in Storyblok. - Internationalization
We understand that many businesses operate on a global scale and in order to be successful and tell a compelling story it is necessary to speak the language of their customers. For that reason, we support content in multiple languages and our CMS integrates with various tools to manage translations. This guide will show you the main options for managing multi-language and multi-country content in Storyblok as well as how to set up each option.
Storyblok V2 brings you a collection of new features, specifically designed to empower your development and content teams to create the best digital experiences, across all channels. You can learn more about all the new features from our Storyblok V2 Walkthrough video on our YouTube channel. Lastly, our Partner Portal offers a V2 lesson that will guide you through the key new updates and features designed to take your digital experience creation to a new level.
One very important point is that these Storyblok CMS improvements won’t change what really matters: your existing projects. Backend services and current content will remain untouched, meaning you can seamlessly transition into a better editing experience without having to worry about growing pains. In addition, you can choose to switch back to V1 after August 2nd for at least 6 months, but we strongly recommend that you adopt V2. It's easier, faster, and packed with new features designed to improve all your content workflows.
Key takeaways
Storyblok V2 has completely changed the way our users can create their content for the better. It brings powerful new features, the UI is more intuitive, and the overall user experience has gotten a boost. V2 is also a testament to how we're always looking for ways to evolve. We have a strong community of developers and content creators, and we’re always listening to what they need to perform their best. V2 is far from the end of this journey. Check out our Storyblok Roadmap for more information on where we’re headed.
