$8.5M to solve the content problem
Storyblok is the first headless CMS that works for developers & marketers alike.
Today we are proud to announce $8.5M in new funding to help you solve your content problems.
We founded Storyblok with the mission to build the world’s first headless CMS that works for both developers and business users.
Back in the day, Alexander and I used and explored an obscene amount of content management systems throughout our time at digital agencies, and either we as a developer or our customer were unsatisfied.
The reasons are manifold, but all lead back to the explosion of different devices, platforms, and apps and how those are changing the way we consume content as users and manage content as businesses. On the one side, traditional (also known as coupled) CMS, where the front and back-end are tied closely together, make it difficult to repurpose content for different channels. Those monolithic systems were never built for an omnichannel world. And on the other hand, we've seen the new generation of headless CMS that offers significantly more flexibility for developers but has limitations for editors.
With Storyblok we offer a unique combination of a visual editor and highly customizable components (content blocks) for marketers on top of a modern headless architecture that gives developers the flexibility to build fast and reliable digital platforms.
With customers ranging from fast-growing start-ups to established S&P500 enterprises, we help all of them build reusable content structures and accelerate their digital growth using APIs. With Storyblok, we bring significant productivity gains for businesses in all industries – currently powering 60,000+ projects across 130 countries, and our enterprise customer segment has grown 6-fold in 2020 alone. Together with an excellent, global remote team, we're looking forward to what we can achieve in 2021.
PAYONE’s engineering team, together with our Partner Reply, rebuilt their new corporate website from the ground up with a custom design and an implementation using Nuxt.js hosted on Amazon Web Services and content powered by Storyblok. For PAYONE, the European market leader for payment solutions, Reply created individually developed components that support the editors and align with PAYONE’s corporate design.
The team at Education First was able to reduce their development time of multi-lingual site by 60%, bringing it down from 4-6 months to now just around eight weeks. With a Next.js by Vercel and Storyblok, they are now able to generate and publish 9,000 pages in 54 languages variations (486,000 pages) to QA in 1 hour. Promoting those generated pages to production is then achieved in a few minutes.
Our goal in 2021 is to invest to help everyone - from solo developers to global enterprises - to solve their content problem and build better digital experiences.
Upcoming product updates
With our upcoming, open-source design system we’re thrilled to open up Storyblok to more than 500 agency partners worldwide to extend Storyblok for their clients in the same look and feel like our own application. A brand new Storyblok Interface is coming in Q3 2021 (initial beta in Q2 2021) which is faster, completely rebuilt using our design system, and more accessible than our current version. Additionally, we’re excited to launch our API v2 with 3-4x performance improvements, higher cache hit rate, better error handling, and less data transfer.
Details of our Series A
Besides Founders Factory, firstminute capital, and 3VC supporting us in our growth for the last year and years ahead, we’re thrilled to have Fatou Bintou Sagnang and Barbora Winczerova from Mubadala Capital join our advisory board and bring in their expertise to help our team and accelerate our global expansion plan!
Storyblok has secured an additional $8.5M in series A funding in a round led by Mubadala Capital, with participation from existing investors 3VC and firstminute capital. The new funding, which brings the total raised to $11M, will be used to accelerate the international expansion through Germany and the Republic of Ireland, drive platform innovation with the launch of a custom design system and scale its team globally further to enable developers and content editors creating content for every channel.
